THE SERBIAN SLAVA
According to the words of St Apostle Peter a Christian family is a miniature church (Philemon 1:2). And just like every Christian temple is dedicated to one saint, it celebrates as its patron, Serbian families put themselves under the protection of one saint, to whom they talk, as to their representative in prayers in front of God, and whom they respect as the protector of their family and who they regularly celebrate every year as a feast day inherited from the father to sons.
The Christened name – Slava, is a wonderful manifest of the Orthodox faith, which is so deeply rooted in the soul of Serbian people. Slava is also a distinctive marker of the Serbs, because it is only celebrated among them (generally). The purpose of these lines is to allow more correctly understanding and more dignified celebrating of the Christened name.
